Dr Naba J Borah is one of the leading neurosurgeons of north east India. He is presently associated with GNRC group of Hospitals, Guwahati
Hailing from a small village in Nagaon, Assam, Dr Naba J Borah did his early schoolings from his native place. He passed HSLC examination in 1997 and was admitted into prestigious Cotton College, Guwahati. He was selected for MBBS course in Gauhati Medical College in the year 1999. He was a recipient of North East Council (NEC) merit scholarship for undergraduate medical students. After completion of MBBS course, he worked in the Department of Surgery in Maulana Azad Medical College, New Delhi for some time. Always passionate about being a surgeon, he completed his MS Surgery training from Gauhati medical college in the year 2010 to become the best outgoing post graduate student under Gauhati University. As a post graduate student, he was always fascinated by Neurosurgery which deals with the most complex organ in the body – brain and spinal cord and developed a keen interest to pursue his passion. His dream did come true when he joined as a Mch student in Neurosurgery under Srimanta Sankardev University of Health Sciences
in the year 2011. During Mch student days, he was the recipient of Torrent Young Scholar Award (TYSA) in neurosurgery 2013. He was also selected for Young Neurosurgeons’ Scholarship (YNS) from Asian Congress of Neurological Surgeons (ACNS) in 2014 to attend educational course in Tyumen, Russia. He has attended and participated in several conferences, workshops and CMEs at regional, national and international level to keep himself updated about latest developments in neurosurgery. He is actively involved in the academic front too. He is an editorial board member and reviewer of some national and international scientific journals.
A born leader, he served as the General Secretary of Gauhati Medical College Students Union (GMCSU) from 2003 to 2005. He is actively involved in various social organizations. He has organized a number of health camps and public awareness campaigns throughout the state.
Apart from his professional activities, he is associated with several socio cultural and literary activities. He has keen interest in literature, music and acting. He writes poems and is a good story teller in Assamese. Although increasing commitment in profession tends to reduce his involvement in these activities, he involves himself, whenever he can.
